On Saturday March 10 at SAIT,  local celebrities teamed up to play in a basketball game to raise funds for 2 schools in Malawi - Kagolo Primary School and Mazala Primary School. Team Mazala emerged victorious over Team Kagolo by a score of 85 - 68, however, the real victory was for the 260 children in Malawi who will now be assured of a daily meal at school for one year, thanks to the $4,172.74 that was raised at the event.

Special thanks to our players: Harvie Pocza, Tony Stiles, Russ Romaniuk and Claude Vilgrain (Calgary Flames Alumni), Kansas King (Miss Calgary 2017), Amber Owen (Breakfast Television), Zach Taylor (award-winning hip-hop artist), Haifan Zhang (2% Realty), Aloysius Callaghan and Gavin Tang (Calgary Selects Basketball Club), Maggie Mowser and Amy Williams (newly crowned City Champions from Centennial High School)  Alycia Walker (Fitterfirst), Ryan Cunningham and MJ Richie, (multi-year college basketball players) and Abu Khan (University of Calgary).

More special thanks to our sponsors, SysGen Solutions Group and Calgary Show Services for their generous support of this event.

Finally, thank you to those who donated our prizes, including Fitterfirst, Jesse Muench from Get Handles Basketball , The Gift Designers and Bert Church Theatre.

A fun time was had by all and we hope to make this an annual event!

You can still donate to our yearly goals for both Kagolo and Mazala schools. To set up your own fundraiser (of any size) for Mary's Meals, please contact us for a fundraising kit! We will provide help and support as needed. For every $16 raised, one child in Malawi will receive a daily meal in their place of education, not only helping to feed chronically hungry children, but also allowing them to gain an education which can be their ladder out of poverty.

There are many different ways you can help by donating your time, money, thoughts and prayers.
