About your School

St. Theresa's Primary School now has 1050 pupils enrolled, including 505 boys and 545 girls. Mary’s Meals first began feeding in the school in January 2011.The children at St. Theresa’s Primary School range from Standards 1 to 8.

There are 8 permanent classrooms at the school and the Mary’s Meals sponsored kitchen can double up as a classroom when it is not being used for feeding. Due to a lack of indoor space, some classes are taught under trees in the school grounds.

St. Theresa’s Primary School’s pupils are taught by a total of 17 qualified teachers. The school’s water source is a borehole in the school grounds which is very close to the kitchen and there are 4 pit latrine toilets on site which are split evenly between the boys and girls.

Open quote mark I am happy to receive phala when I come to school. It strengthens my body because tea isn’t enough to sustain me. When I come to school am already feeling hungry but when I eat it takes away my hunger. Close quote mark
Dennis Mumba, 11 years old
Open quote mark The program has a positive impact on the children around here. A lot of these children come to school hungry but their minds are at ease knowing they will eat here. It also motivates them to come to school every day. Close quote mark

Open quote mark Volunteering has been more of a passion to me, after seeing friends cooking for children I felt I needed to be part of the initiative to help children in this community. Phala gives children strength to help them get through the day. They listen attentively in class, and even their performance is better than before. Close quote mark
Patricia Theu, mother and volunteer cook
