Malita, 33, along with her husband and six children, is struggling to survive amid Malawi’s worsening food crisis.

Severe flooding and drought have meant a pitiful harvest for the family this year, who have produced less than a quarter of the food they would normally expect.

Malita tells us: “Today, we have used up our last bit of harvest. I don’t know how we are going to cope. It has been difficult to ration the eating portions. Lately, to make the harvest last longer, we have been missing meals and not eating.

“I have never been through a crisis this bad and this is only the beginning. This year is the worst people have witnessed in Malawi.”

But thanks to your support, Malita’s children are guaranteed at least one nutritious meal each day – their mug of porridge from Mary’s Meals at nearby Mchenga Primary School.

Malita says: “The only consolation we have is that the children going to school will receive phala [porridge] and so will have at least something to eat.”

During this time of crisis, the daily meal Mary’s Meals provides is not just a powerful incentive to come to school – but a vital lifeline for vulnerable children in desperate need of nourishment.

There are so many struggling families like Malita’s throughout Malawi, where 6.5 million people are in need of food aid.

Please help us continue supporting the 1,187,104 children who already depend on our school feeding programme. And help us expand – as funds allow – to reach even more little ones with a life-changing daily meal in school.
